What I do and why

One of the first things I learned as a landscape designer is that to be in a space requires being surrounded by similar elements.  Originally those elements were plants, patios and for woodwork. Their balance was critical.  But when it came to materials for gates something stronger and more durable was needed.  Then technology brought me steel.   And with steel, I could do almost anything.  To create pieces for a landscape that would create that sense of space, I found that three elements worked very well together.

The first are  gates.

The second are  hangings.

The third are wall pieces.

Key uses of Steel in the Landscape

Gates

In designing gates, I have a number of goals.    Below are my guidelines.

1. My gates are designed to act as introductions to a space.

2.  My gates are usually based on a garden theme.

3.  My gates are meant to welcome and maybe even introduce elements of the garden to visitors

4.   They need to be as beautiful as I can possibly make them.

Hanging screen

 1. Hanging screens can either be open or obscure. If backed with a prismatic or obscure material, these screens can sparkle and let in light while striping unwanted detail from whatever lies behind.

2. Such screens can be used to break up a walls or fences

3. They can also be use for as focal point for a space withing the garden.

4. The can be use as space separators

Wall Pieces

What defined wall pieces is that they neither have open spaces like gates nor be translucent like hanging screens. As such they have two uses.

1.  They can break up a wall or a tense

2.  They can tie into other pieces of artwork to create a sense of continuity.

This one was built with the pieces that came out of the nearby gate.

Identity

Pictures say little about a person.   Fortunately this one along with the works in this site, says a great deal.   We all manifest ourselves in some way or the other.   These are my manifestations.

New Direction from an old Beginning

My original goal was to produce unique art that could be used in landscape design.  That, to me, meant steel.  Steel pieces are usually created by removing pieces of steel from a background matrix.  Therefore, what we see is what is not there.
